THE UNITY PRAYER

My adorable Jesus,
May our feet journey together.
May our hands gather in unity.
May our hearts beat in unison.
May our souls be in harmony.
May our thoughts be as one.
May our ears listen to the silence together.
May our glances profoundly penetrate each other.
May our lips pray together to gain mercy from the Eternal Father.

As the colder winter months settle into Ukraine and the invaders continue to attack power stations and residential blocks many are living without power and heat. Can you imagine living without power and heat in Canada in winter? Many new displaced families are coming to Central Alberta from Ukraine and Europe seeking safety and assistance. How can we not help?
The Ukrainian Displaced Planning Committee of Red Deer and Area needs financial donations to assist families as they arrive with essentials. We need host families to house new arrivals for a month or two while they settle and find work. We need property owners and managers with empty apartments willing to accept new families. We need businesses and individuals looking for hardworkers to offer employment. We need donations of good furniture, towels, bedding, new pillows, and kitchen supplies. We also need you! Anyone that can volunteer and spare a few hours each week to help at our furniture warehouse or pick up furniture would be great.
  • If you can be a host family or have housing available contact: Cheryl at dcdeagle@shaw.ca.
  • If you have furniture or household donations or can volunteer at our furniture warehouse contact: Emily: q8emom@yahoo.com
  • If you would like to make a monetary donation to help displaced Ukrainian families please e-transfer to ukr.dis.families@gmail.com (no password is required) Tax receipts are available for all donations.
  • For all other inquiries contact me, Fr. Jim at: nakone@hotmail.com
GOD BLESS YOU FOR SHARING YOUR TIME, TALENTS, AND TREASURES WITH THOSE DISPLACED BY THIS BRUTAL AND HORRIFIC WAR IN UKRAINE.
Sincerely in Christ Jesus,

Father Jim Nakonechny

Devotion of the Month of March
Dedicated to St. Joseph

The Church traditionally dedicates the month of March to the special veneration of St. Joseph, whose feast day is March 19th. "He was chosen by the eternal Father as the trustworthy guardian and protector of his greatest treasures, namely, his divine Son and Mary, Joseph’s wife,"  says St. Bernardine of Siena. "He carried out this vocation with complete fidelity until at last God called him, saying ‘Good and faithful servant, enter into the joy of your Lord.’" Due to St. Joseph's leadership of the Holy Family, he has been declared the protector and patron of the universal Catholic Church.

FIRST
FRIDAY DEVOTION

Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus
is one of the most popular Catholic devotions.
Although it was beloved in previous centuries,
Jesus appeared to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque in 1673, showing her a vision of the now-famous image of
His Sacred Heart, surrounded by flames.
He said to her: “My Heart is so full of love for men that
It can no longer contain the flames of Its burning love.
I must discover to men the treasures of
My Heart and save them from perdition."
She was given the special mission to spread devotion to His Sacred Heart throughout the Church.
Jesus gave St. Margaret Mary many promises associated with this devotion, and requested that a feast day in honor of His Sacred Heart be instituted
on the Friday after the Octave of Corpus Christi.
In 1856, the Feast of the Sacred Heart was spread to the Universal Church, and in 1899 Pope Leo XIII
solemnly consecrated all mankind to the
Sacred Heart of Jesus,
calling it “the great act” of his pontificate.

FIRST SATURDAY DEVOTION
The First Saturdays Devotion, also called the
Act of Reparation to the Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Our Lady appeared six times to the children at Fatima, yet her appearance on July 13, 1917 was particularly important. It was also the first time that Our Lady mentioned the First Saturdays.

How does God want us to practice devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary? Our Lady introduced 2 special requests:
“…I shall come to ask for the consecration of Russia and the Communion of Reparation on the first Saturdays. If my requests are heeded, Russia will be converted, and there will be peace…”

The four practices that have to be fulfilled on the First Saturday, each with the intention of making reparation to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, as Our Lady asked in 1925, are the following:
1.   Confession*
2.   Receive Holy Communion*
3.   Pray the Rosary*
4.   Keep her company for 15 minutes while meditating on the mysteries of the Rosary*
* Each of these practices need to be done with the intention of making reparation to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

                                                 Our Lord Jesus Christ
                              made these twelve promises
to those who honor His Sacred Heart

to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, a French nun, whom he called “the Beloved Disciple of the Sacred Heart”
and the Heiress “of all Its treasures”, in the 1670’s. They show us how much he cherishes this devotion.

Considering that the blood that redeemed us at Calvary came from His Sacred Heart and that so much love and light still exude from it, we can easily understand why! These promises were revealed in one of many private revelations that Jesus gave St. Margaret Mary.

Our Lord promised the following:
1. I will give them all the graces necessary for their state in life.
2. I will establish peace in their families.
3. I will comfort them in their trials.
4. I will be their secure refuge during life, and, above all, in death.
5. I will shed abundant blessings on all their undertakings
6. Sinners will find in My Heart an infinite ocean of mercy.
7. Lukewarm souls will become fervent.
8. Fervent souls will rapidly grow in holiness and perfection.
9. I will bless every place where an image of My Heart shall be exposed and honored.
10. I will give to priests the gift of touching the most hardened hearts.
11. The names of those who promote this devotion will be written in My Heart, never to be blotted out.
12. I promise thee, in the excessive mercy of My Heart, that My all-powerful love will grant to all those who receive Holy Communion on the First Friday of nine consecutive months, the grace of final penitence; they shall not die in My disgrace nor without receiving their Sacraments; My Divine Heart shall be their safe refuge in this last moment.

Keep in mind in the 12th Promise that our Lord asks us to receive Him in Holy Communion in a state of grace on the First Friday of each of nine consecutive months, a First Friday devotion.
